Orthodontics for Kids and Adults
Having properly aligned teeth can make you feel good about your smile. Did you know that it is also good for your oral health? Overlapping, crowded, or misaligned teeth may have a negative effect on your bite and could make you more susceptible to decay and periodontal disease.
By addressing your smile’s alignment, you can improve both your health and appearance!
Traditional orthodontics is one of the best ways to treat almost any alignment issue for both children and adults. Brackets and wires move your teeth over time into their correctly aligned position. We attach brackets to your teeth and use a wire to create low-force tension to gently and gradually move your teeth.
Regular adjustments to your wire provide the guidance necessary to realign your teeth and give you predictable, reliable results.
Certain behaviors during treatment will be beneficial:
Avoid sticky, chewy foods – Sticky and chewy foods like caramels, toffee, peanut brittle, saltwater taffy, bagels, and even biting directly into an apple without cutting it up first can cause your bracket to come off. Cut up your veggies and fruits into bite-sized pieces and avoid foods that are difficult to chew. If you do break off a bracket, call us so we can repair it quickly and keep your treatment on track.
Keep up with your home care – Flossing your teeth may require an extra step to work around your wires, but it will be worth it when your teeth are cavity-free after your treatment is complete.
If the insides of your cheeks become sore – Use orthodontic wax to create a buffer between your brackets and your tender tissue. Your cheeks will eventually get used to the brackets, but for particularly sore spots, wax can provide relief.
We offer both metal and ceramic brackets. If you are concerned about how you look during treatment, ceramic (tooth-colored) brackets look more natural.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
For adults and older teens wishing to address alignment issues and improve their appearance, we offer Invisalign clear aligners to cosmetically correct your smile. Invisalign is a completely clear system that uses a series of aligners to gradually move your teeth.
You can remove your aligners to eat and drink as well as to brush and floss your teeth, making oral hygiene easy during treatment.
Invisalign works best on patients wanting to make cosmetic improvements or for those patients who have less complex treatment plans. Invisalign treatment takes about the same amount of time as traditional orthodontics and still requires regular dental exams so that we can make sure your treatment stays on track.
Wearing a retainer is essential for both traditional orthodontics and Invisalign to prevent your teeth from drifting. Once your treatment is complete, our Brite Dental team will create an orthodontic retainer to keep your smile looking great.
